Note that the guy in the article you link to is not flying, he is catching a central London train so he can spend most of 3 hours near the museums. If you are flying you won't have time to do anything - Heathrow is at least 1.5 hours away assuming no signal failures or persons throwing themselves on the train lines. When I have 3 hours to kill at Heathrow, I find a nice restaurant and treat myself to a long meal with a book or 'quality' newspaper.
